ScienceDirect haven't officially told us that the problem is resolved, but access is working and many other institutions are reporting the same.
Update 3rd August, 16:33. Unfortunately access is still not restored. Elsevier are aware and are working on this. The issue is impacting on a number of other institutions, not just Salford.
We are aware that the ScienceDirect service is not currently working correctly. We are unable to browse the site without seeing an error message. And we're also not able to download PDFs.
We have been in touch with ScienceDirect, and they are investigating. This post will be updated as we receive further information.
